Objective of the Programme

The Programme is designed to train world-class specialists able to ensure effective management of sports organizations, their structural and functional units at a high professional level, as well as to represent interests of Russia in the world sports arena.

Peculiarities and Advantages


MA graduates who have successfully completed the joint Programme get an MA MGIMO degree and a Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism (SCOLIPE) vocational retraining degree.


Students have an opportunity to communicate with the leading professors and specialists from MGIMO University, Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism (SCOLIPE), overseas universities, and professionals representing the world sports community.


Teaching is based on the cutting-edge techniques employed in the world educational system, including multimedia interactive lectures and workshops, master-classes, trainings, case-studies, business and role-plays, conferences, round tables and distant blocks.


The compulsory course in the Programme is the English language. MGIMO professors employ unique learning techniques by teaching profession-related language, and by using authentic materials in the English language. Additionally, students may also learn some other foreign language.


MA students go through a number of training and industry internship stages in partnering universities and ministries. A visiting module to partnering universities, Russian and international sports organizations is possible (International University of Monaco, Olympic Studies Center in Lausanne, Russian Olympic Committee, Russian International Olympic University, and others).

The Programme familiarizes students with the establishment, development and the current state of international relations and international sports movement, reveals historic, organizational and legal aspects of Russian diplomacy and its application to protect Russian strategic interests in the world sports arena. The «Sports Diplomacy» MA Programme
aims to achieve the following goals:

  • To train highly competent specialists able to work in any political and economic environment and develop ideas and initiatives of the Olympic movement
  • To provide knowledge and develop practical skills needed for analyzing, planning, organizing and overseeing the current and prospective avenues in developing sports organizations
  • The universal character of the Programme (target audience – representatives from various sports organizations).
  • Diverse specialization of educational modules of the Programme and inclusion of all functional avenues of sports management and sports diplomacy (world political systems, basics of diplomacy, financial management, marketing strategy, PR activity, and others)
  • Diverse professional competencies to be acquired by Programme graduates and the possibility for the graduates of the Programme to use the professional knowledge and skills in different sport industry segments.

Fill in the registration form and MA application online (if previously registered in another programme, please go through the registration process from different email).

Go to the Admission Commission of the MGIMO School of Business and International Proficiency, Room 213 (new building, 2nd floor, the glass and brown part of the building to the right). There is a pass system at MGIMO. Remember to take your passport with you.

The entrance exam has two parts (interview and English language placement test) to be held on one day - 2 September, 2021, 16:00.

Working hours: week days from 10:00 till 17:00.

Documents to submit to the Admission Commission

  1. State standard document on higher professional education of various levels (Bachelor, Specialist or Master's certificate) and copies thereof. If you are studying not at MGIMO and you have not yet been issued a certificate, then you need to provide information from the Dean’s office about the deadlines for graduating and receiving a certificate. Documents of education issued abroad must be recognized (nostrified) in the prescribed manner.
  2. Internal passport (for foreigners - foreign) and a copy of the main pages;
  3. Photos for documents (black and white, matte): 4 pcs. 4 × 6 and 4 pcs. size 3.5 × 4.5 (signed)
  4. Military service registration certificate or military service record card with copies of pages containing personal data and other notes by the military commissariat (for those subject to military service)
